Celebrating Canada with National Aboriginal Day!

Posted by Rob on June 17, 2013

This Friday kicks off a series of truly awesome Canadian celebrations and to start things off, this week we will celebrate National Aboriginal Day on June 21st followed by Saint-Jean Baptiste Day (June 24th), Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27th), and wrapping it up with Canada Day on July 1st.

National Aboriginal Day is celebrated every June 21st and provides all Canadians an opportunity to recognize the unique heritage, diverse cultures and the contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Events are taking place coast to coast to coast, and I strongly encourage you to go out and see what’s happening in your community.

Here’s an interesting fact about National Aboriginal Day: Did you know that June 21st was selected to be National Aboriginal Day because it is the longest day of the year? It’s also called the “summer solstice.” Cool, eh?

To get you started, check out www.NAD.gc.ca for events taking place in your area. You can also be a part of the discussion on social media by following the #NADCanada Hashtag on Twitter!

And finally, visit us on our Facebook page and tell us how you’re celebrating National Aboriginal Day! Share a photo, tell us a story or post a fact. It’s time to Celebrate Canada and National Aboriginal Day is a great way to start!

Happy National Aboriginal Day!
