FSWEP worked for me. It can for you too!

It’s time for some full disclosure: who am I and how did I get here?

Well, we’ve established that my name is Rob and that I enjoy giving advice about education, career planning and money management, but did you know that this all came about because of a Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) job?

I was entering my last semester of university when I received notification of a possible job. It fit my interests, my skills and my experience, so I applied. I took part in a pre-screening interview, and then an in-person interview. A couple of weeks later, I started working! I remember feeling incredibly prepared. I did plenty of research before I went to the interview. I was able to confidently speak about programs and services, as well as the organizational structure of the organization. I went with my own set of questions, dressed for success and left feeling like I had done my best. That’s always a great feeling, isn’t it?

Since then, I’ve found my niche. Offering advice to young Canadians like me seems like a natural fit. Many of the blogs I’ve written have come about as a result of something that happened in my life, a lesson I’ve learned or an experience I’ve had the opportunity to grow from. I hope somewhere along the way they’ve helped you too.

To this day, I am constantly encouraging my friends who are still in school to apply for the FSWEP program. You never know where your application could take you because the Government of Canada has so many services, programs and departments.

I’m enjoying my career serving young Canadians and sharing lessons learned from the challenges in my life as a young twenty-something.

If you have any questions about planning, learning and working, get in touch with me here or on our Services for Youth Facebook page. I’m always around and willing to help!
