Happy Canada Day!

Happy 146th Birthday Canada! You don’t look a day over 145!

Our participation in Canada Day activities across the country helps us appreciate and be proud of the nation we have built over the past 146 years.

Every year, thousands of people flock to Parliament Hill in Ottawa to take part in Canada Day festivities, but there are events taking place around the country. You can contact your Canadian Heritage Regional Office to find out more.

Some of my favourite Canada Day memories have been made since I’ve lived in Ottawa. The enthusiasm is contagious all day long, from early afternoon until well into the wee hours of the morning. Everyone is decked out in red and white, relaxing on patios, listening to awesome Canadian music, and just having a great time. It all culminates in a fantastic, breathless explosion of fireworks that light up the sky. You can see them across the entire city.

Visit Parliament Hill at any time on July 1st because there is so much to see. Amazing Canadian musicians hit the stage, there are food trucks and Beavertail stands all over the place, and people are generally in really positive spirits cheering about our country.

It truly is a uniquely Canadian experience. I hope you take the opportunity this year to get involved and join in the celebrations.

If you can make it to Ottawa, I highly encourage it! Check out Canadian Heritage for more information about what activities you can expect in the nation’s capital on Canada Day.

How are you celebrating Canada Day this year?
