Making the most of your summer!

Making the most of your summer!
Posted by on March 18, 2013
While you may have been stressing over midterms or projects in February or planning a getaway for winter break, many community employers were submitting applications for the 2013 Canada Summer Jobs campaign.
Know what that means? Jobs! More importantly: jobs for you!
Here’s how it works. The Canada Summer Jobs campaign encourages employers from not-for-profit or public-sector organizations to apply for government funding to hire youth (between the ages of 15 and 30) throughout the summer months. Many of the jobs are posted in early April on the Job Bank.
When you’re in post-secondary school, you generally have a couple of choices of how you will spend your summer.
When I was in university, a lot (and I mean a lot) of my friends and peers took the summer to explore the world. They went everywhere: Japan, Amsterdam, London, France, Australia, or took a road trip through North America. They became much better versed in different cultures and came home with wonderful experiences and memories to share. Some were in a financial position where travelling was feasible, but in my case, my only option was to cross my fingers, pound the pavement and look for a job.
Once upon a time, I was very envious of their worldly travels, but in hindsight, the work experience I obtained from working throughout the summer helped pave the way to the beginnings of my career.
How you choose to spend your summer is completely up to you. It’s all about how you want to spend your time. As you are about to embark on your own summer vacation, think about how you want to spend it. A Canada Summer Job? Travel? Leisure and visits with friends and family? Maybe you can even find a way to work and fit in a little travel!
It’s up to you! The important thing is to enjoy it!!
