You’ve stumbled upon a new blog ― written by youth for youth. A space where real life experiences will be shared to help you find the tools you need to get out there, find a job and gain insight into the world of work and post-secondary education. This is a space where we can actually relate to one another and take-away more than just information.
Last summer, I was lucky to find a job as a Youth Services Officer (YSO). This job allowed me to help youth, like you, find work, continue their education, and learn the ins and outs of the workplace. Now I’m here to tell you about it!
You’re probably asking yourself “Just who is this Derek fellow anyway?” Well, I’m a youth too and I know the challenges that most of us face. We ask ourselves questions like “Where do I start?”, “How do I write a resume?” or “What if I make a bad first impression?”. Well fear not! As a former YSO, I’m equipped with the tools to help you. I’ll be writing on VOICE to share some of my own experiences and to profile some great initiatives in the hope that this will help you in your future career and employment adventures.
But that’s not all! I’ll also be updating you on some of the exciting things that are happening across the country this summer. I’ll also be featuring some great guest bloggers as the weeks go on
VOICE is for you, so feel free to share some of your own stories and advice with me and the other readers!
